Reading Twilight

I just started reading Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, the first book in her Twilight saga.  I had read a bit about Stephanie Meyer as the next J.K. Rowling, so I was curious and picked up her book.  So far so good - though I'm not used to reading something fantastical from the perspective of a teenage female protagonist.  Twilight is also being turned into a movie.

Now watching Jericho

I am currently watching season 1 of a show called Jericho that I bought on dvd.  It is fascinating.  This show came out in 2006 well after 9/11 and the then-recent Blackwater scandal and paints a frightening end-of-the-world picture told from the perspective of the small town of Jericho, Kansas.  I am glued to the show so far, having gone through 3 discs.  It is intense yet sweet at the same time.  So far, highly recommended.

Vancouver

Our cruise is over! :(  We arrived in Vancouver today and just got to our hotel.  This has been an awesome vacation!  We will be back home in San Jose on Sunday.  We have tons of photos and videos to sort through then!

Zipping Along

For today's adventure at Icy Strait Point, we did the ZipRider, the world's longest zip line at 5,330 feet long. It starts with a 45 minute bus tour through the Tlingit village of Hoonah and up the mountain to our drop station. The zip ride includes a 1,300 foot vertical drop, accelerates to 60 mph and lasts about 1.5 minutes! I recorded the trip using my Flip video which I will post later. Here's a picture of Jennifer as the two of us start zipping!

Platinum Club

There are many lounges around the ship. Below is a photo of the Platinum Club which features a Martini bar and overlooks the Rendezvous lounge below. We like the atmosphere and Jennifer especially likes the artwork around the lounge. Today we are in Icy Strait Point, Alaska. There is no port here. We will be taking a boat over to a private island for our shore excursion. More later...

Metropolitan Restaurant

This picture is the view from my seat at the Metropolitan Restaurant aboard the Millenium. We have our own table for two overlooking the grand staircase which is not only a great view out the two story windows, but also nice to not have to share a table with strangers. Dinner tonight will be vegetarian eggroll to start followed by cream of asparagus soup and Boston Bibb salad. Jennifer is having roasted quail while I will have a hearty steak. The food quality and service has been excellent so far!

Glacier Walking

Here's a picture of Jennifer on our walkabout on Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau! We took a helicopter tour and then touched down on the glacier! We saw some cool glacial waterfalls and we both drank some refreshing ice cold glacial water!

Onboard the Millenium!

We are now onboard the Celebrity Millenium! The ship is huge, our stateroom has a fantastic view, and the food is excellent! My iPhone only has Internet when we are at port so the updates will be infrequent :) Yesterday we sailed by the Hubbard glacier which was amazing. If I have time later I will post a photo. Today we are in Juneau and we're getting ready for our first excursion: a helicopter ride over the glaciers!
